Required Headers

There are a few things to note when it comes to uploading contacts into Volt. Most importantly, is the name of your columns or the headers that you use within the CSV file. If you do not use the correct headers your upload will not work correctly.

For example, the two most important columns are "Name" and "Phone". If your first two columns do not contain those exact words, your upload will fail. These two columns are MANDATORY for any upload to work. Our software cannot create a new contact unless there is a name and phone number to go with it.

Custom Fields

Once you have a column for "Name" and "Phone", you may continue to add additional columns. Each column after the required ones will be stored as Custom Fields in your contact records. Common custom fields include location, favorite product, birthday, age, etc. Using Custom fields is very useful because it allows you to segment your audience later down the line. My favorite example is using location-based custom fields to make lists based on where your contact is located.

Just remember to make sure the column headers of your csv match identical to the name of the custom field on your Volt account.
